Blonder Tongue repair, service, and parts

Acme Revival is an independent repair network that operates separately from the manufacturers whose devices we service. Our independence enables a repair model that exists beyond manufacturer-controlled strategies, while preserving the ability to work with manufacturers where appropriate.

Blonder Tongue is a long-established U.S. designer and manufacturer of professional video, broadband, and telecommunications distribution equipment, with roots in cable-TV transmission technology going back more than 65 years. Its products are primarily used by cable operators, broadcasters, hospitality properties, campuses, healthcare facilities, MDUs, and systems integrators to receive, process, encode, transcode, modulate, and distribute television and data signals over IP, coaxial, and fiber networks. Its portfolio includes the NXG modular IP video platform, video encoders and transcoders, QAM and analog modulators, off-air receivers/transmodulators, DOCSIS CMTS equipment, broadband amplifiers, fiber-optic transmission products, and test-and-measurement equipment. Blonder Tongue is particularly known for professional headend equipment, U.S.-based engineering/manufacturing, and durable RF/video distribution hardware used in commercial and institutional television systems.

2 Most Seen Failures:

Power Supply Failure

Blonder Tongue modulators, encoders, amplifiers, and chassis commonly develop no-power or intermittent-power conditions from failed internal or external power supplies. Manufacturer documentation explicitly identifies an extinguished power LED despite valid AC input as a defective PSU requiring repair.

Overheating / Thermal Shutdown

Encoders, transcoders, and headend chassis can develop excessive internal temperatures from restricted airflow, aging cooling hardware, or sustained rack heat. Symptoms include overtemperature warnings, instability, spontaneous resets, or loss of video processing.

Cooling Fan Failure

Rack-mounted Clearview, NXG, encoder, and similar high-density systems depend on forced-air cooling, making worn, stalled, or slow fans a significant failure point. Fan degradation can produce temperature alarms and eventually cause processing modules to shut down or operate erratically.

Encoder / Transcoder Module Failure

Digital video products can develop failed encoder or transcoder processing channels that stop producing valid video streams even while the chassis remains powered. Typical symptoms include a red failed status, missing program output, frozen video, or individual channels becoming unavailable.

Video Input Detection Failure

HDE, SDE, CV and related encoder models can stop detecting HDMI, SDI, composite, component, or other video inputs because of input-interface or processing faults. The result is commonly no video, an input-error indication, or a persistent invalid-video state despite a known-good source.

RF Output Loss or Low Output Level

Blonder Tongue modulators and broadband distribution equipment can develop absent, weak, or unstable RF output from RF-stage, amplifier, connector, or power-related faults. Affected equipment may appear operational while producing no usable channel or substantially reduced signal level.

Audio Input / Encoding Failure

Encoder and modulator hardware can lose audio detection or generate an audio-error condition while video remains functional. Failures may originate in analog/digital input circuitry, audio encoding hardware, or associated processing sections.

Firmware / Boot Failure

Programmable Blonder Tongue encoders, NXG modules, transcoders, and other digital platforms can fail to boot or operate correctly following corrupted or incompatible firmware. Blonder Tongue specifically warns that loading firmware intended for the wrong hardware revision can crash a unit and require factory repair.

RF Hum / Noise / Signal Distortion

Analog modulators and RF distribution hardware can develop hum, interference, distorted modulation, or degraded carrier quality associated with power-supply noise, grounding problems, aging components, or RF-stage faults. These failures often appear as visible picture interference or poor measured signal quality rather than complete loss of output.

Connect with a technician.

  1. 1 Repairs are performed on a best-effort basis. Acme Revival utilizes a network of sophisticated technicians and engineers with diverse service offerings; despite this, factors that influence the repair outcome may ultimately prove unsuccessful. Acme Revival makes no claim that it can, guarantee a repair before your device is sent in for diagnostic evaluation; even then, repair and diagnostic work are not mutually exclusive. Despite well-intentioned quoting, repairs may still prove unsuccessful.
