Black Lion Audio repair, service, and parts

Acme Revival is an independent repair network that operates separately from the manufacturers whose devices we service. Our independence enables a repair model that exists beyond manufacturer-controlled strategies, while preserving the ability to work with manufacturers where appropriate.

Black Lion Audio is a Chicago-founded professional audio equipment manufacturer established in 2006. The company originally became known for modifying and upgrading recording interfaces and other studio hardware to improve analog circuitry, clocking, conversion, and overall sound quality. It subsequently expanded into its own line of boutique studio products, including microphone preamplifiers, audio interfaces, compressors, word-clock generators, patchbays, power conditioners, converters, and related recording equipment. Black Lion Audio is particularly associated with affordable high-end studio hardware, analog signal processing, precision digital clocking, and its long-running audio modification business.

2 Most Seen Failures:

USB Connection Drops / Intermittent Disconnects

Revolution 2x2 and related USB interfaces may repeatedly disconnect and reconnect, temporarily losing audio or disappearing from the computer. Reported cases can progressively worsen until the interface becomes unreliable or is recognized only through certain USB ports.

Hum / Excessive Background Noise

Mic preamps such as the B173 and other analog Black Lion hardware may develop excessive hum or elevated noise, particularly at higher gain settings. Power-supply interference, grounding faults, regulators, or internal analog circuitry can contribute to the problem.

Power Supply / Power Regulation Failure

Black Lion hardware can experience failed external adapters, internal regulators, filtering components, or other power-rail faults resulting in no power, unstable operation, noise, or intermittent shutdown. Aging legacy units are increasingly affected by unavailable or obsolete power-related components.

Power Switch Failure

PG-series power conditioners have reported main power switches that stop switching even though the unit may continue supplying power. Contact wear, switch failure, or associated switching circuitry can leave the conditioner permanently on or unable to energize normally.

Crackling / Noisy Potentiometers

Gain, output, monitor, and other rotary controls can produce scratching, static, or intermittent audio while being turned. Oxidized potentiometer tracks, worn contacts, solder-joint problems, or contaminated controls are typical repair points.

One Channel Weak / No Audio

Preamps, interfaces, and other multi-channel Black Lion devices can develop a channel with reduced level, distortion, or complete signal loss. Likely faults include op-amps, coupling capacitors, relays, connectors, power rails, or failed components in the affected analog signal path.

Clock Sync / Digital Lock Failure

Micro Clock units and digital interfaces can fail to establish or maintain stable word-clock, S/PDIF, or digital synchronization. BNC connections, clock-generation circuitry, power integrity, termination, or aging digital components can produce intermittent lock or synchronization errors.

RF / Electromagnetic Interference Pickup

Some Black Lion preamps can pick up Wi-Fi, mobile-phone, power-adapter, or other electromagnetic interference that becomes audible in the signal. Connector shielding, grounding, chassis bonding, and equipment placement can strongly affect the severity of the interference.

Intermittent or Failed Audio Controls / Switching

Pushbuttons and switching functions such as phantom power, polarity, input selection, compressor ratios, or monitoring controls may become intermittent or stop responding. Worn mechanical switches, relays, solder joints, or associated control circuitry are common component-level causes.

Connect with a technician.

  1. 1 Repairs are performed on a best-effort basis. Acme Revival utilizes a network of sophisticated technicians and engineers with diverse service offerings; despite this, factors that influence the repair outcome may ultimately prove unsuccessful. Acme Revival makes no claim that it can, guarantee a repair before your device is sent in for diagnostic evaluation; even then, repair and diagnostic work are not mutually exclusive. Despite well-intentioned quoting, repairs may still prove unsuccessful.
