Black Box repair, service, and parts

Acme Revival is an independent repair network that operates separately from the manufacturers whose devices we service. Our independence enables a repair model that exists beyond manufacturer-controlled strategies, while preserving the ability to work with manufacturers where appropriate.

Black Box is a global digital-infrastructure and connectivity company founded in 1976. It supplies and integrates enterprise hardware and systems including KVM switches and extenders, AV distribution equipment, networking devices, Ethernet and fiber infrastructure, cables, IoT connectivity products, data-center infrastructure, and control-room solutions. The company is particularly known for KVM and connectivity hardware, enterprise network infrastructure, system integration, managed services, and custom connectivity solutions used in data centers, offices, industrial facilities, broadcasting, healthcare, government, and other mission-critical environments. Black Box combines its own branded technology products with third-party platforms and integration services for large enterprise customers worldwide.

2 Most Seen Failures:

No Video Output

Black Box KVM switches, HDMI/DVI extenders, and MediaCento systems commonly develop or report no-display conditions caused by failed video paths, EDID/HDCP negotiation problems, incorrect source selection, or defective ports. The symptom may appear only after switching inputs, displays, or resolutions.

Keyboard or Mouse Not Responding

ServSwitch and Secure KVM models frequently experience loss of keyboard or mouse control due to USB/PS2 communication faults, failed KVM ports, incorrect cabling, or peripheral initialization problems. Some units require a reset or complete power cycle to restore communication.

No Power / Dead Unit

Extenders, KVM switches, converters, and network devices can exhibit completely dead operation with no LEDs or response. Common hardware-related causes include failed AC/DC adapters, internal power circuitry faults, damaged power connectors, or loss of the required supply voltage.

Network or Link Connection Failure

Ethernet extenders, media converters, switches, and AV-over-IP products commonly show missing LINK LEDs or complete loss of network communication. Defective RJ45 ports, fiber interfaces, transceivers, cabling, or physical-layer circuitry can produce intermittent or permanent link loss.

Intermittent or Unstable Video

KVM and video-extension hardware can produce flickering, blanking, corrupted images, shadows, or intermittent signal loss. Typical causes include degraded video-port circuitry, marginal cables, signal-integrity problems, EDID incompatibility, or excessive transmission distance.

USB Device Detection Failure

Black Box USB extenders and KVM products may stop recognizing attached USB peripherals or repeatedly disconnect them. Failures can involve USB controller circuitry, excessive peripheral power draw, damaged USB ports, or communication failure between local and remote extender units.

PoE Output Failure

Black Box PoE switches and PoE media converters can maintain Ethernet communication while failing to deliver power to the connected device. Overcurrent, thermal protection, damaged PoE power circuitry, insufficient power budget, or failed individual PoE ports are common causes.

Fiber or Copper Media Converter Link Failure

Black Box media converters commonly experience loss of communication on either the copper or fiber side, often indicated by extinguished LINK/ACT LEDs. Faults may originate in the RJ45 interface, optical transmitter/receiver, SFP, auto-negotiation circuitry, or Link Fault Pass-Through operation.

Freezing / Requires Reset

ServSwitch, KVM, and extender hardware can become unresponsive, stop switching correctly, or lose peripheral communication until reset or power-cycled. Recurring lockups may be associated with controller firmware, internal logic faults, power instability, or communication errors between interconnected units.

1 Acme Revival offers repair, service, and part rebuild opportunities for most Black Box devices.

Connect with a technician.

  1. 1 Repairs are performed on a best-effort basis. Acme Revival utilizes a network of sophisticated technicians and engineers with diverse service offerings; despite this, factors that influence the repair outcome may ultimately prove unsuccessful. Acme Revival makes no claim that it can, guarantee a repair before your device is sent in for diagnostic evaluation; even then, repair and diagnostic work are not mutually exclusive. Despite well-intentioned quoting, repairs may still prove unsuccessful.
