BB&S Lighting repair, service, and parts

Acme Revival is an independent repair network that operates separately from the manufacturers whose devices we service. Our independence enables a repair model that exists beyond manufacturer-controlled strategies, while preserving the ability to work with manufacturers where appropriate.

BB&S Lighting, legally Brother, Brother & Sons ApS, is a Danish designer and manufacturer of professional LED lighting equipment primarily for film, television, broadcast, studio, theatre, commercial production, and architectural applications. Founded in 1999 by lighting designers Peter Plesner and Thomas Brockmann, the company develops and manufactures high-color-accuracy, flicker-free LED fixtures intended for demanding production environments. Its product families include Pipeline remote-phosphor lights, Reflect fixtures, Area 48 panels, Compact Beamlight (CBL), Compact Fresnel Light (CFL), Force series light engines, Grid lights, and associated lighting controllers. BB&S emphasizes in-house expertise spanning industrial design, electronics, CAD, prototyping, lighting design, and production, and is particularly known for accurate color rendition and specialized LED/remote-phosphor technology for cinematography and broadcast applications.

2 Most Seen Failures:

Power Supply / No-Power Failure

Fixture will not illuminate because of a failed external PSU, internal power supply, DC input circuitry, cable, connector, or protection component. This is especially relevant across BB&S products that depend on separate 12–15 V or 48 V supplies and driver/controller hardware.

LED / Light Engine Failure

Individual LEDs, LED strings, or the associated constant-current drive circuitry fail, producing no output, reduced brightness, or uneven illumination. High operating hours and thermal stress can accelerate degradation of the light engine.

Driver / Dimmer Failure

The electronic LED driver or dimmer develops a fault, causing no light, intermittent output, unstable brightness, or loss of dimming control. Pipeline RAW and several Compact fixtures specifically depend on external driver/dimmer electronics, making this a distinct failure point.

DMX / RDM Control Failure

The fixture or controller powers up but stops responding correctly to DMX512/RDM commands because of interface, transceiver, connector, addressing, firmware, or controller-board faults. BB&S uses DMX/RDM extensively in its studio fixtures and multi-channel controllers.

Intermittent XLR / Power Connector

Repeated rigging and cable movement can produce worn, loose, damaged, or cracked XLR and power connections, resulting in intermittent power, flickering, or loss of control. Pipeline and Reflect systems rely heavily on 3-pin and 4-pin XLR interconnections between fixtures, drivers, and controllers.

Flickering / Unstable Light Output

The fixture pulses, flickers, cuts out, or changes intensity unexpectedly due to deteriorating driver electronics, poor power delivery, connector resistance, or control problems. Because BB&S designs its normal operating system for flicker-free dimming, visible flicker generally points to a fault elsewhere in the power/control chain.

Cooling Fan Failure / Thermal Shutdown

Fan-equipped fixtures can develop noisy, slow, seized, or failed cooling fans, eventually causing excessive temperature and output reduction or protective shutdown. This primarily applies to actively cooled BB&S products such as Reflect Color Studio rather than passive Pipeline fixtures.

Controller / Display / User-Interface Failure

Buttons, displays, encoders, or controller electronics stop responding even though the lighting hardware itself may remain functional. BB&S multi-channel controller systems contain their own power, dimming, DMX/RDM, display, and push-button electronics, creating additional electronic failure points.

Color / Output Degradation

A fixture develops reduced output, inconsistent color temperature, tint variation, or mismatched illumination relative to other fixtures as LEDs, phosphor elements, optical materials, or driver channels age. This is particularly noticeable in color-critical studio installations where BB&S fixtures are specified for high CRI/TLCI and closely matched output.

Connect with a technician.

  1. 1 Repairs are performed on a best-effort basis. Acme Revival utilizes a network of sophisticated technicians and engineers with diverse service offerings; despite this, factors that influence the repair outcome may ultimately prove unsuccessful. Acme Revival makes no claim that it can, guarantee a repair before your device is sent in for diagnostic evaluation; even then, repair and diagnostic work are not mutually exclusive. Despite well-intentioned quoting, repairs may still prove unsuccessful.
