BBE Sound repair, service, and parts

Acme Revival is an independent repair network that operates separately from the manufacturers whose devices we service. Our independence enables a repair model that exists beyond manufacturer-controlled strategies, while preserving the ability to work with manufacturers where appropriate.

BBE Sound, Inc. is a California audio-technology and professional-audio equipment manufacturer founded in 1985, best known for its BBE Sonic Maximizer and related sound-enhancement technologies. Its hardware portfolio has included rackmount signal processors, sonic maximizers, crossovers, preamps and guitar/bass effects pedals, while its technology-licensing business supplies audio-processing intellectual property for integration into televisions, portable audio products, automotive systems and other consumer electronics. BBE technology has been licensed by manufacturers including Panasonic, Philips, Sony, Hitachi, LG, Clarion and Cowon. The company also owns G&L Musical Instruments, giving it a substantial presence in electric guitars and basses alongside its core professional-audio and audio-processing operations.

2 Most Seen Failures:

Power Supply Failure

Unit will not power on, powers intermittently, or repeatedly blows its mains fuse. Common repair points on older BBE rack processors include aging electrolytic capacitors, rectifier components, regulators, transformer connections, and damaged power-input circuitry.

One Channel Dead or Weak

One audio channel produces no output or is substantially quieter than the other while the second channel operates normally. Failures can occur in the channel's op-amp/BBE processing IC circuitry, switching contacts, solder joints, or surrounding analog components.

Scratchy or Intermittent Controls

Process, Lo Contour, output, or other rotary controls produce crackling, signal dropouts, or erratic changes when adjusted. Aging or contaminated potentiometers and worn control contacts are common causes on older rack processors and preamps.

Bypass / Process Switching Failure

Audio disappears, becomes intermittent, or remains permanently in bypass when the Process/Bypass control is operated. Worn switches, oxidized contacts, relay/switching circuitry, or associated solder joints can interrupt the signal path.

Hum and Excessive Noise

Unit develops audible 50/60 Hz hum, hiss, buzzing, or other noise that was not previously present. Aging power-supply filtering, grounding faults, deteriorated capacitors, dirty connectors, or failing analog stages are typical causes.

Distorted or Clipping Audio

Output becomes harsh, clipped, or noticeably distorted even with otherwise normal source material. Faults in the analog signal path, incorrect supply rails, deteriorated active components, or failed processing circuitry can produce persistent distortion.

Intermittent Input / Output Jacks

Audio cuts out, crackles, or changes when an input/output cable or connector is moved. Repeated mechanical loading can wear jack contacts or crack solder joints around 1/4-inch, RCA, or XLR connectors.

BBE Processing Circuit Failure

Audio passes through the unit but the Sonic Maximizer Process or Lo Contour function has little effect, operates incorrectly, or works on only one channel. Faults can involve the BBE processing IC, associated op-amps, control circuitry, passive components, or calibration-related circuitry.

Pedal Footswitch / Power Failure

BBE stompboxes may stop engaging the effect, become intermittent when switched, or fail to power reliably. Mechanical footswitch wear, DC-jack damage, battery connections, board solder joints, and power-conditioning components are common service points in aging pedals.

Connect with a technician.

  1. 1 Repairs are performed on a best-effort basis. Acme Revival utilizes a network of sophisticated technicians and engineers with diverse service offerings; despite this, factors that influence the repair outcome may ultimately prove unsuccessful. Acme Revival makes no claim that it can, guarantee a repair before your device is sent in for diagnostic evaluation; even then, repair and diagnostic work are not mutually exclusive. Despite well-intentioned quoting, repairs may still prove unsuccessful.
