Barefoot Sound repair, service, and parts

Acme Revival is an independent repair network that operates separately from the manufacturers whose devices we service. Our independence enables a repair model that exists beyond manufacturer-controlled strategies, while preserving the ability to work with manufacturers where appropriate.

Barefoot Sound is an American professional-audio manufacturer specializing in high-end active studio monitors and reference loudspeaker systems for recording, mixing, mastering, broadcast, and immersive-audio environments. Founded by engineer Thomas Barefoot and originating from a garage operation in San Francisco, the company is now centered around its Portland, Oregon production operation. Its product families include the Footprint, MicroMain, MiniMain, MicroStack, MasterStack, and LFE/Subwoofer systems, with proprietary technologies such as Dual-Force opposing woofers, MEME monitor emulation, and SPOC signal conversion. Barefoot monitors are particularly known for combining wide frequency response, high output capability, low-frequency extension, and critical-reference accuracy in integrated active speaker systems used by professional recording engineers, producers, artists, and studios.

2 Most Seen Failures:

Plate Amplifier Failure

Internal amplifier modules fail, causing complete loss of audio, one or more inactive drivers, distortion, or intermittent output. Plate-amp faults are specifically associated with MicroMain45 and other active Barefoot monitor models in repair-service records.

Power Supply / No-Power Failure

Monitor will not power on, the front LED remains dark, or the unit powers down unexpectedly. Failed power-supply components, electrical surges, incorrect mains-voltage selection, or faults within the amplifier power rails can produce these symptoms.

Woofer / Subwoofer Failure

One or more low-frequency drivers stop producing sound, distort, buzz, or exhibit significantly reduced output. High excursion, prolonged high-level operation, voice-coil damage, or amplifier-channel faults can produce apparent woofer failures.

Tweeter Failure

High-frequency output becomes weak, distorted, intermittent, or disappears completely. Barefoot specifically treats tweeters and other moving speaker components as serviceable components, and repair records identify burned or failed tweeters among monitor faults.

Buzzing / Humming / Distorted Audio

The monitor develops audible buzzing, humming, crackling, rattling, or generally distorted output. Possible causes include amplifier-stage deterioration, driver damage, power-supply problems, loose mechanical components, or faults elsewhere in the internal signal path.

DSP / Input Board Failure

Audio becomes intermittent, disappears, behaves incorrectly between inputs, or exhibits abnormal processing despite functioning drivers and amplifiers. Service diagnostics identify DSP and input-board faults as a distinct failure category across Barefoot active monitors.

Protection Mode / Audio Shutdown

The monitor suddenly becomes silent and may display a red status LED because its over-current protection has shut down the amplifier power rails. Persistent protection after reducing the input level and power-cycling can indicate an amplifier, power-supply, or load-related hardware fault.

Thermal / Overheating Failure

Monitor becomes excessively hot, shuts down, distorts, or develops intermittent behavior after extended operation. Barefoot's high-power amplifier modules depend on airflow around the rear amplifier plate, making obstructed cooling or heat-stressed electronics important diagnostic considerations.

Intermittent or Missing Driver Channel

A specific tweeter, midrange, midbass, woofer, or subwoofer channel produces no output while the remainder of the monitor continues operating. The underlying fault can originate in the individual driver, its amplifier channel, DSP/crossover signal path, wiring, or associated power electronics.

Connect with a technician.

  1. 1 Repairs are performed on a best-effort basis. Acme Revival utilizes a network of sophisticated technicians and engineers with diverse service offerings; despite this, factors that influence the repair outcome may ultimately prove unsuccessful. Acme Revival makes no claim that it can, guarantee a repair before your device is sent in for diagnostic evaluation; even then, repair and diagnostic work are not mutually exclusive. Despite well-intentioned quoting, repairs may still prove unsuccessful.
