Baratza repair, service, and parts

Acme Revival is an independent repair network that operates separately from the manufacturers whose devices we service. Our independence enables a repair model that exists beyond manufacturer-controlled strategies, while preserving the ability to work with manufacturers where appropriate.

Baratza is a specialty coffee-equipment OEM founded in 1999 and best known for designing premium electric burr coffee grinders for home, prosumer, and light-commercial applications. Its lineup has included widely recognized models such as the Encore, Encore ESP, Virtuoso+, Sette series, Vario series, and Forté, with an emphasis on grind consistency, adjustable burr systems, repairability, replaceable parts, and support for multiple brewing methods ranging from espresso to filter coffee. Baratza was acquired by Breville Group in October 2020 for approximately US$60 million and now operates as one of Breville's specialty coffee brands. Breville describes Baratza as designing and marketing premium grinders for North American and international markets, while Baratza continues to emphasize user-serviceable products, replacement parts, and technical support.

2 Most Seen Failures:

Broken Ring Burr Holder

The plastic ring-burr carrier can crack or lose its locating tabs, allowing the upper burr to move and producing extremely coarse, inconsistent grounds regardless of the selected setting. This is particularly common on Encore, Encore ESP, Virtuoso, and related conical-burr models.

Clogged Grind Chute

Coffee grounds, oils, and fines can compact inside the discharge chute until grounds stop exiting normally, resulting in low output, retention, or beans simply circulating above the burrs. Dark oily beans and accumulated residue increase the likelihood of recurring blockage.

Worn or Broken Paddle Wheel

The plastic paddle wheel beneath the burr can wear down, lose its paddles, or break, preventing ground coffee from being efficiently pushed into the discharge chute. Symptoms commonly resemble a severe clog, with grounds accumulating underneath the burr assembly.

Gearbox / Drive Gear Failure

Internal gearbox components or the main drive gear can wear, strip, or break, causing abnormal grinding noises, reduced torque, intermittent burr rotation, or a motor that runs without properly driving the burrs. This occurs across older conical models and is also a documented repair area on the Sette series.

Worn Burrs / Poor Grind Consistency

Burr cutting surfaces gradually wear with use, increasing fines, boulders, grind-time, and overall particle-size inconsistency. Heavily used grinders may require replacement burrs to restore normal grind quality and throughput.

Grind Adjustment / Calibration Failure

The adjustment mechanism can drift, lose calibration, bind, or fail to maintain the selected burr spacing, causing grind settings to become inaccurate or change during operation. Sette adjustment rings and Vario/Forté macro-micro adjustment systems are especially dependent on proper calibration and mechanical retention.

Motor Failure

The grinder motor can eventually become weak, intermittent, seized, or completely inoperative, resulting in failure to start or insufficient torque under a bean load. Baratza identifies motors among the components that may require replacement after extended service.

Power Switch / Timer Control Failure

Mechanical switches, timer controls, knobs, or their associated electrical contacts can wear or fail, leaving the grinder unable to start, stop reliably, or respond correctly to the control. These components are individually serviceable on many Baratza models.

Electronic / Control Board Failure

Power boards, displays, dosing electronics, or control circuitry can fail and produce a dead grinder, intermittent operation, nonfunctional display, or loss of timed/weight-based dosing functions. Electronically controlled models such as the Virtuoso+, Sette 270/270Wi, Forté, and newer Encore variants have more control electronics susceptible to this type of failure.

Connect with a technician.

  1. 1 Repairs are performed on a best-effort basis. Acme Revival utilizes a network of sophisticated technicians and engineers with diverse service offerings; despite this, factors that influence the repair outcome may ultimately prove unsuccessful. Acme Revival makes no claim that it can, guarantee a repair before your device is sent in for diagnostic evaluation; even then, repair and diagnostic work are not mutually exclusive. Despite well-intentioned quoting, repairs may still prove unsuccessful.
