Azden repair, service, and parts

Acme Revival is an independent repair network that operates separately from the manufacturers whose devices we service. Our independence enables a repair model that exists beyond manufacturer-controlled strategies, while preserving the ability to work with manufacturers where appropriate.

Azden Corporation is a Japanese professional-audio and electronics manufacturer founded in 1952, specializing particularly in microphones and wireless audio equipment for video, broadcast, filmmaking and content production. Its product portfolio has included camera-mounted microphones, shotgun microphones, wireless microphone systems, audio mixers, infrared classroom/audio systems, headphones, speakers and amateur-radio equipment. Azden began primarily as an OEM manufacturer and continues to provide OEM/EMS development and manufacturing services for other electronics and audio brands alongside its own Azden-branded products. The company emphasizes vertically integrated, small-lot Japanese manufacturing, with capabilities including PCB surface mounting, component insertion, final assembly, metal pressing, injection molding, painting, printing, testing and inspection. Its principal manufacturing operation is the Iwate Factory in Hanamaki, while corporate, engineering and commercial functions are based in Mitaka, Tokyo. Azden is particularly known internationally for affordable professional shotgun, camera and wireless microphones used in ENG, filmmaking and video production.

2 Most Seen Failures:

Battery Failure / Rapid Discharge

Rechargeable batteries in PRO-XD and PRO-XR transmitters and receivers progressively lose capacity, eventually causing short runtime, unexpected shutdowns, or failure to remain powered. AA/9V-powered Azden microphones and older wireless systems similarly develop no-power or intermittent-power symptoms from depleted batteries, poor battery contacts, or battery leakage.

Wireless Audio Dropouts / Intermittent Reception

Azden wireless systems can develop intermittent or completely lost audio when RF reception becomes weak, obstructed, or unstable. Symptoms commonly include brief dropouts, receiver signal loss, crackling, or audio disappearing as the transmitter is moved farther away or loses clear line-of-sight.

RF Interference / Excessive Noise

Wireless receivers and some camera-mounted microphones can pick up interference that presents as buzzing, whining, static, or unstable audio. Older VHF systems with only a small number of selectable frequencies are particularly susceptible when another RF source occupies or interferes with the selected channel.

Transmitter / Receiver Frequency Mismatch

Wireless systems may power normally yet produce no usable audio when the transmitter and receiver are configured for different frequencies or channels. This is especially relevant to Azden PRO-series VHF and other multi-channel wireless systems where both ends must operate on matching selections.

Audio Cable / Connector Failure

3.5 mm, XLR, lavalier, and receiver output connections can develop intermittent opens, damaged conductors, worn plugs, or poor contact that causes no audio, low output, crackling, or audio that changes when the cable is moved. Older Azden shotgun microphones have also been reported with grounding-related hum associated with cables or loose XLR connections.

No Audio / Very Low Audio Output

Azden microphones may produce little or no output despite appearing powered because of failed microphone elements, damaged cabling, incorrect gain, defective receiver output stages, or poor input connections. Low-output complaints are particularly associated with older shotgun microphones and wireless/lavalier systems where several stages exist between the capsule and recording device.

Hum / Grounding Buzz

Shotgun and XLR-equipped Azden microphones can develop persistent hum or buzzing from broken cable conductors, poor grounding, loose XLR assemblies, or deteriorated connections. A characteristic symptom is noise that changes or disappears when the XLR connector or microphone body is touched.

Battery Leakage / Corroded Battery Contacts

AA and 9V-powered microphones left stored with discharged alkaline batteries can suffer electrolyte leakage that corrodes battery terminals and nearby internal circuitry. The resulting damage can cause intermittent operation, failure to power on, unstable voltage, or permanent PCB damage.

Microphone Element / Audio Distortion Failure

Aging or damaged microphone capsules and associated preamp circuitry can produce muffled, distorted, noisy, or abnormally weak audio even when power and cabling are correct. This failure pattern is reported particularly on older SGM-series shotgun microphones and may require capsule, preamp, or complete microphone replacement.

Connect with a technician.

  1. 1 Repairs are performed on a best-effort basis. Acme Revival utilizes a network of sophisticated technicians and engineers with diverse service offerings; despite this, factors that influence the repair outcome may ultimately prove unsuccessful. Acme Revival makes no claim that it can, guarantee a repair before your device is sent in for diagnostic evaluation; even then, repair and diagnostic work are not mutually exclusive. Despite well-intentioned quoting, repairs may still prove unsuccessful.
