Ayon Audio repair, service, and parts

Acme Revival is an independent repair network that operates separately from the manufacturers whose devices we service. Our independence enables a repair model that exists beyond manufacturer-controlled strategies, while preserving the ability to work with manufacturers where appropriate.

Ayon Audio is an Austrian high-end audio equipment manufacturer specializing particularly in vacuum-tube-based audiophile electronics. Its roots extend back to the VAIC tube-amplifier business, with the Ayon Audio brand established under Gerhard Hirt in 1999. The company designs and manufactures integrated and power amplifiers, preamplifiers, headphone amplifiers, CD/SACD players, DACs, network streamers and high-end loudspeakers, with vacuum-tube amplification remaining central to its identity. Ayon emphasizes Class-A and triode designs and has unusually deep involvement in tube technology, including ownership/involvement in tube production in the Czech Republic. Its main electronics are identified as Made in Austria, with production distributed among specialized Austrian sites and final production/QC activities centered around Gratkorn near Graz. The brand is primarily known for expensive, handcrafted audiophile components such as its Spirit, Crossfire, Triton and Scorpio integrated amplifiers, Spheris preamplifiers and CD-35 digital players.

2 Most Seen Failures:

Power Tube Failure / Loss of Bias

KT88, KT150, 6C33 and other output tubes can age, short, or become unable to maintain the required bias, causing distortion, reduced output, or amplifier shutdown. Ayon's protection systems specifically identify defective or out-of-bias power tubes as a primary service condition.

Protection Circuit Shutdown

Ayon tube amplifiers may repeatedly enter protection because of excessive current, a defective power or signal tube, DC at the input, or an abnormal speaker load. The symptom is commonly no output accompanied by a blinking Ayon logo, protection indication, or tube fault code.

CD Laser Pickup Failure

Ayon CD players and transports can develop difficulty reading discs as the optical pickup ages, eventually producing DISC ERROR, failure to initialize, skipping, or complete loss of CD playback. Replacement of the laser or complete transport mechanism may be required while the DAC and analog sections continue functioning normally.

CD Transport / Loading Microswitch Failure

Top-loading Ayon CD players can develop worn or intermittent lid/transport microswitch operation, preventing the player from reliably detecting that the transport is ready. Symptoms include intermittent playback, failure to initialize a disc, an OPEN indication, or apparently dead CD operation despite otherwise functional electronics.

Small-Signal / Preamp Tube Deterioration

12AU7, 12AX7, 6SN7, 6H30 and other signal-stage tubes gradually deteriorate and can cause increased noise, hum, channel imbalance, distortion, intermittent audio, or loss of gain. Tube-equipped Ayon CD players, DACs, preamps, and amplifiers are all susceptible to this age-related failure mode.

Fuse Blowing / Power-On Failure

A failed tube or internal power-supply fault can open the AC mains fuse, leaving the unit completely unresponsive. Ayon specifically warns that a replacement fuse blowing again indicates an underlying electrical fault rather than simply a bad fuse.

Tube Protection Resistor Damage

A shorted output tube can overstress and open a resistor or another sacrificial component in the amplifier's protection network, particularly if the amplifier is repeatedly powered up with the defective tube installed. The amplifier may continue entering protection even after the original tube fault has been identified.

Relay / Output Switching Failure

Ayon amplifiers use high-voltage and protection relays to disconnect the output stages during startup, shutdown, and fault conditions. Aging or damaged relay contacts or associated control circuitry can result in intermittent output, failure to leave mute/protection, channel dropout, or abnormal switching behavior.

Power-Supply / High-Voltage Rail Failure

Failures involving rectification, capacitors, regulators, resistors, or other components in the high-voltage and low-voltage supplies can produce no power, hum, unstable operation, repeated protection activation, or loss of one or more audio stages. These faults become increasingly relevant in older Ayon hardware because its tube circuitry operates with substantial heat and high internal voltages.

Connect with a technician.

  1. 1 Repairs are performed on a best-effort basis. Acme Revival utilizes a network of sophisticated technicians and engineers with diverse service offerings; despite this, factors that influence the repair outcome may ultimately prove unsuccessful. Acme Revival makes no claim that it can, guarantee a repair before your device is sent in for diagnostic evaluation; even then, repair and diagnostic work are not mutually exclusive. Despite well-intentioned quoting, repairs may still prove unsuccessful.
