AVM repair, service, and parts

Acme Revival is an independent repair network that operates separately from the manufacturers whose devices we service. Our independence enables a repair model that exists beyond manufacturer-controlled strategies, while preserving the ability to work with manufacturers where appropriate.

AVM Audio Video Manufaktur GmbH is a German high-end hi-fi manufacturer founded in 1986 and based in Malsch. The company develops and hand-builds premium home-audio electronics, including integrated and power amplifiers, preamplifiers, network/streaming players, CD receivers, all-in-one music systems, phono equipment, turntables, and loudspeakers. AVM is particularly known for its Inspiration, Evolution, Ovation, and AVM30 product families, its combination of traditional audiophile amplifier design with modern streaming technology, and its emphasis on in-house German engineering and manufacturing. The company says all AVM components are manufactured at its own factory, with specialized items such as circuit boards, front panels, and transformers sourced from nearby suppliers.

2 Most Seen Failures:

Thermal Shutdown / Overheating

AVM amplifiers may shut down during operation as internal temperatures rise, sometimes displaying TEMP or OVERHEAT. Aging bias circuitry, inadequate ventilation, or heat-stressed regulator components can make thermal protection activate repeatedly.

Speaker Protection Relay Failure

Output and protection relays can develop burned, oxidized, or sticking contacts, resulting in intermittent audio, missing channels, protection-mode operation, or output-stage damage. Relay problems are particularly documented in older Evolution amplifiers and power amplifiers.

Power Amplifier Output Stage Failure

MOSFETs, power transistors, driver devices, or associated bias components can fail and leave an amplifier with no output, severe distortion, or permanent protection activation. Some Evolution amplifier repairs document repeated output-stage damage when faults in the protection circuitry remain unresolved.

Aging Power-Supply Capacitors

Electrolytic capacitors in the main supply, low-voltage regulators, and control circuits can dry out, short, or increase in ESR with age. Symptoms include hum, unstable operation, excessive heat, failure to start, or abnormal DC voltages.

Voltage Regulator / Heat-Damaged Power Supply

Regulators, dropping diodes, and nearby PCB areas can experience prolonged thermal stress, particularly in older Evolution power amplifiers. This can cause unstable supply rails, excessive PCB discoloration, intermittent shutdown, or loss of amplifier bias.

Protection Mode / No Audio

AVM amplifiers can remain muted or disconnect their speaker outputs when DC, overload, ultrasonic, or thermal protection circuits detect an abnormal condition. Failed sensing components, relay circuitry, output-stage faults, or incorrect supply voltages can cause protection to remain active even when the external load is normal.

Display / Control Electronics Malfunction

Displays may show corrupted characters, freeze, fail to initialize correctly, or respond unpredictably to front-panel controls. Control-processor resets can sometimes restore operation, while persistent cases may involve power-supply, display-module, encoder, or processor-board faults.

Input Selector / Front-Panel Control Failure

Some older Evolution amplifiers develop problems changing sources or responding to rotary selectors and front-panel controls. Encoder wear, control-logic problems, relay switching faults, or associated power-supply instability can leave the unit stuck on one input or intermittently unresponsive.

CD Transport / Disc Reading Failure

AVM CD-equipped players and combination units can develop difficulty recognizing discs, reading the table of contents, tracking, or maintaining playback. Typical hardware causes include aging optical pickups, spindle mechanisms, transport components, and their associated servo electronics.

Connect with a technician.

  1. 1 Repairs are performed on a best-effort basis. Acme Revival utilizes a network of sophisticated technicians and engineers with diverse service offerings; despite this, factors that influence the repair outcome may ultimately prove unsuccessful. Acme Revival makes no claim that it can, guarantee a repair before your device is sent in for diagnostic evaluation; even then, repair and diagnostic work are not mutually exclusive. Despite well-intentioned quoting, repairs may still prove unsuccessful.
