AVID Products repair, service, and parts

Acme Revival is an independent repair network that operates separately from the manufacturers whose devices we service. Our independence enables a repair model that exists beyond manufacturer-controlled strategies, while preserving the ability to work with manufacturers where appropriate.

AVID Products, Inc. is a U.S. audio-products company founded in Providence, Rhode Island, in 1953; its name originally stood for Audio Visual Instructional Device. The company designs and markets durable headphones, headsets, earbuds, audio adapters, and related listening solutions, with education as a major market alongside healthcare, hospitality, travel, and other institutional applications. AVID historically became prominent through airline entertainment headphones—in the 1960s it says it supplied in-flight headphones to 97% of the world's airlines—and later expanded heavily into classroom audio. Current products include the WonderEars AP-400, AVIGA AP-1000, AE-series classroom headphones/headsets, earbuds, and Fishbone breakaway adapters. AVID has been 100% employee-owned since 2017 and is particularly known today for rugged, affordable audio equipment designed for repeated institutional and classroom use.

2 Most Seen Failures:

Cable or Internal Wire Failure

Repeated bending, pulling, and twisting can fracture conductors inside the headset cable, causing intermittent audio, complete loss of sound, or microphone failure. User reports also describe AVID connectors beginning to short after continued use.

Microphone Stops Working

Boom microphones can lose output because of broken internal wiring, microphone capsule failure, or damage where the boom enters its pivot assembly. Reports on AVID headsets include microphones working initially and then failing after several months.

Audio Cuts Out on One Side

One earcup may stop producing sound when its driver wiring, cable junction, or internal connection becomes open or intermittent. This has been specifically reported on AVID headset models after relatively short periods of use.

Bent or Damaged Audio Plug

The 3.5 mm plug can bend, loosen, or develop internal connection problems after repeated insertion, pulling, or sideways stress. The result is commonly intermittent sound, missing channels, microphone loss, or audio that changes when the plug is moved.

Broken Microphone Boom or Pivot

The rotating microphone mechanism can crack or loosen where the boom attaches to the headset. AVID identifies microphone breakage at pivot points as one of the common physical headset failures seen in heavily used environments.

Snapped or Cracked Headband

Repeated stretching, adjustment, drops, and rough handling can eventually crack or completely break the headband. AVID specifically lists snapped headbands among the most common headset failure points encountered in classroom use.

Detached or Loose Earcup

Earcups can loosen or separate from their headband or swivel mounting after repeated adjustment and impacts. A damaged mount may leave the speaker hanging by its wiring or prevent the headset from fitting correctly.

USB-A or USB-C Connection Failure

USB-equipped AVID models can develop unreliable detection, missing audio, or microphone operation because of plug damage, cable faults, or failure in the integrated USB audio electronics. Connection problems may appear as a headset that is intermittently recognized or not recognized by the host device.

Speaker Driver Failure or Distorted Audio

A damaged speaker driver or compromised internal connection can cause weak output, distortion, rattling, or complete loss of audio from an earcup. Driver problems can be distinguished from cable faults when the affected channel remains defective regardless of cable or plug movement.

  1. 1 Repairs are performed on a best-effort basis. Acme Revival utilizes a network of sophisticated technicians and engineers with diverse service offerings; despite this, factors that influence the repair outcome may ultimately prove unsuccessful. Acme Revival makes no claim that it can, guarantee a repair before your device is sent in for diagnostic evaluation; even then, repair and diagnostic work are not mutually exclusive. Despite well-intentioned quoting, repairs may still prove unsuccessful.
