Atomos Limited is an Australian video-technology OEM specializing in professional monitoring, recording, and production workflow equipment for filmmakers, content creators, broadcasters, and video-production professionals. The company is particularly known for its Ninja and Shogun lines of on-camera monitor-recorders, which combine high-brightness HDR displays with external video recording, including Apple ProRes and ProRes RAW workflows. Its broader portfolio includes standalone production monitors such as Shinobi, larger studio/display systems, wireless synchronization products, accessories, software, and cloud-connected production tools. Atomos positions its products between cameras and post-production workflows, allowing users to monitor video accurately while recording camera output directly into production- and editing-friendly formats.
The monitor intermittently loses the HDMI signal, displays "No Input," flickers, or fails to lock onto the camera feed despite being connected. The fault can originate from the HDMI port, cable connection, signal compatibility, or input circuitry.
The recorder fails to recognize an installed SSD, unexpectedly reports the drive as full, or stops recording because communication with the storage media is lost. In severe cases, interrupted writes can leave recordings corrupted or require file recovery.
The touchscreen stops responding, responds inconsistently, or prevents access to menus and recording controls. The problem may be associated with the touchscreen/display assembly or a system freeze rather than the LCD image itself.
The unit freezes during monitoring or recording and no longer responds to touchscreen or physical controls. A forced shutdown or restart may be required, potentially interrupting the active recording and leaving the current file incomplete.
The device fails to start from a known-good battery or external power source, shuts down unexpectedly, or becomes completely unresponsive. Potential hardware points include the battery interface, battery/power board, mainboard, or external power connection.
The enclosure becomes excessively hot during operation, particularly during high-resolution or high-frame-rate recording, and thermal problems can contribute to instability or shutdowns. Failed, obstructed, or underperforming cooling fans can make the problem substantially worse on actively cooled models.
The display becomes black, loses its backlight, develops abnormal image behavior, or stops displaying an image even though the device may otherwise have power. This generally points to the LCD/backlight assembly, its connection, or associated display electronics.
Ninja-family recorders can develop faults in the internal SATA interface that connects the removable SSD to the recorder. Symptoms include drives not being detected, intermittent media connection, recording failures, or otherwise functional SSDs becoming inaccessible to the recorder.
The recorder fails to boot correctly, becomes persistently unresponsive, or exhibits multiple unrelated hardware functions failing simultaneously. When firmware recovery and known-good power sources do not restore operation, the main PCBA can be the underlying hardware failure.
