Atlas Sound repair, service, and parts

Acme Revival is an independent repair network that operates separately from the manufacturers whose devices we service. Our independence enables a repair model that exists beyond manufacturer-controlled strategies, while preserving the ability to work with manufacturers where appropriate.

Atlas Sound, L.P., operating under the AtlasIED brand, is a long-established manufacturer of professional commercial audio, communications, and life-safety systems. The company designs and manufactures loudspeakers, paging and public-address systems, emergency/mass-notification equipment, intercom products, amplifiers and DSP equipment, sound-masking systems, IP-networked audio devices, and electronic equipment racks/cabinets. Atlas is particularly known for installed commercial sound and communications equipment used in schools, airports and transportation facilities, corporate buildings, hospitality venues, healthcare environments, and other large facilities. Its heritage goes back to 1934 and the early commercial PA industry.

2 Most Seen Failures:

[Shorted Speaker Wiring]

Speaker wiring can become shorted from damaged insulation, staples penetrating the cable, contact with metal conduit, or crossed conductors. This can trigger amplifier fault protection, excessive current draw, loss of audio, or eventual amplifier failure.

[Incorrect Speaker Load / Impedance]

An incorrect impedance or load connected to an amplifier causes excessive current draw and can activate protection circuitry. Atlas specifically identifies incorrect loading as a common cause of amplifier failure, particularly in distributed 25V/70V systems.

[Incorrect Transformer Tap Setting]

A speaker accidentally configured for an 8-ohm connection or an incorrect wattage tap in a 70V system can severely overload the amplifier. Atlas documentation notes that this type of configuration error can cause amplifier failure after continued operation.

[Excessive Speaker Load]

Connecting too many speakers or selecting taps whose combined wattage exceeds the amplifier's rated output overloads the amplifier. The system may initially operate at low volume but experience faults, distortion, overheating, or eventual failure under higher demand.

[Loose or Intermittent Connections]

Loose terminals, crossed wiring, or deteriorated connections can cause complete loss of sound or audio that repeatedly cuts in and out. Connections throughout the signal and speaker path should be checked when intermittent operation occurs.

[Corroded Connections]

Moisture exposure can corrode speaker terminals or partially short connections, producing reduced output or unreliable audio. Atlas specifies weather-resistant terminal covers on applicable outdoor speakers to help prevent this condition.

[Amplifier / Speaker Overdrive]

Driving an amplifier or loudspeaker beyond its rated limits produces distortion at increased volume and can damage the equipment. Reducing amplifier output and verifying that speaker power limits are not exceeded are the documented corrective actions.

[Thermal Overload]

Excessive amplifier temperature can trigger the unit's fault or protection system and interrupt normal operation. Atlas amplifier fault-reporting systems specifically identify temperatures exceeding the channel's safe operating range as a hardware fault condition.

[Loose Hardware or Damaged Loudspeaker]

Loose grilles, mounting hardware, internal components, or physical speaker damage can produce buzzing, rattling, or abnormal sound. Atlas troubleshooting documentation recommends checking the grille and other hardware before inspecting the loudspeaker itself for damage.

1 Acme Revival offers repair, service, and part rebuild opportunities for most Atlas Sound devices.

Connect with a technician.

  1. 1 Repairs are performed on a best-effort basis. Acme Revival utilizes a network of sophisticated technicians and engineers with diverse service offerings; despite this, factors that influence the repair outcome may ultimately prove unsuccessful. Acme Revival makes no claim that it can, guarantee a repair before your device is sent in for diagnostic evaluation; even then, repair and diagnostic work are not mutually exclusive. Despite well-intentioned quoting, repairs may still prove unsuccessful.
