Artiphon repair, service, and parts

Acme Revival is an independent repair network that operates separately from the manufacturers whose devices we service. Our independence enables a repair model that exists beyond manufacturer-controlled strategies, while preserving the ability to work with manufacturers where appropriate.

End Use Segment

Artiphon is a music-technology OEM founded in Nashville, Tennessee in 2011 that specializes in unconventional electronic musical instruments combining dedicated hardware, embedded synthesis, touch and motion sensing, MIDI/MPE control, software, and portable music-production features. The company first became widely known for INSTRUMENT 1, a multi-instrument controller designed to be played using guitar-, violin-, keyboard-, and drum-like techniques, and subsequently developed the Orba family of palm-sized synthesizer/looper/controllers and Chorda, an elongated touch-sensitive smart instrument combining elements of its earlier designs. Artiphon's defining approach is replacing traditional single-purpose musical interfaces with highly expressive, approachable controllers that allow users to create complete musical parts through familiar physical gestures.

2 Most Seen Failures:

Bluetooth / USB Connection Failure

Orba, Orba 2, and Chorda units commonly fail to connect, repeatedly disconnect, or appear connected to the host while remaining undetected by the Artiphon software. Failures occur over both Bluetooth MIDI and USB and can prevent preset loading, configuration, and MIDI operation.

Firmware Update / Bricked Device Failure

Artiphon instruments can become unresponsive or fail to boot following an interrupted or unsuccessful firmware update. Affected units may enter DFU/recovery mode, appear completely dead, or require firmware recovery before normal operation returns.

Battery Charging / Dead Battery Failure

Orba-family and Chorda units can develop batteries that no longer accept or retain a useful charge, particularly after prolonged storage. Symptoms include extremely short runtime, failure to power on from battery, or operation only while connected to USB power.

Random Freezing / Unexpected Rebooting

Orba-family instruments can freeze, crash, or spontaneously restart during normal operation. These failures can interrupt performances or looping sessions and may be associated with firmware instability, corrupted state data, or power-management problems.

Capacitive Pad / Touch Sensor Failure

Individual playing pads can become insensitive, intermittently trigger, generate incorrect velocity data, or stop responding entirely. Because Artiphon instruments depend heavily on capacitive and multidimensional touch sensing, sensor or controller faults can significantly impair playability.

No Audio / Built-In Speaker Failure

The instrument may power up and respond to controls while producing no sound from its internal speaker or audio output. Some cases are software or mute-state related, while persistent failures can involve the speaker, audio amplifier, headphone-detection circuit, or audio signal path.

Preset / Song Loading and Storage Failure

Orba-family devices can fail to load presets or songs correctly, lose saved material, or become stuck while transferring content between the instrument and companion software. Connection interruptions and firmware/software instability are frequent contributors to this behavior.

MIDI Recognition / Data Transmission Failure

Artiphon hardware may power normally yet fail to appear as a MIDI device or stop transmitting MIDI data to a computer, tablet, or DAW. USB enumeration, Bluetooth MIDI, firmware, connector, and host-compatibility problems can all produce this symptom.

USB / Charging Port Failure

Repeated cable use can result in intermittent or completely lost USB communication or power connectivity at the instrument. Typical symptoms include connection dropping when the cable moves, failure to enumerate on a computer, or inability to charge despite trying known-good cables and power sources.

1 Acme Revival offers repair, service, and part rebuild opportunities for most Artiphon devices.

Connect with a technician.

  1. 1 Repairs are performed on a best-effort basis. Acme Revival utilizes a network of sophisticated technicians and engineers with diverse service offerings; despite this, factors that influence the repair outcome may ultimately prove unsuccessful. Acme Revival makes no claim that it can, guarantee a repair before your device is sent in for diagnostic evaluation; even then, repair and diagnostic work are not mutually exclusive. Despite well-intentioned quoting, repairs may still prove unsuccessful.
