Areca repair, service, and parts

Acme Revival is an independent repair network that operates separately from the manufacturers whose devices we service. Our independence enables a repair model that exists beyond manufacturer-controlled strategies, while preserving the ability to work with manufacturers where appropriate.

Areca Technology Corporation (廣安科技) is a Taiwanese computer-storage hardware manufacturer founded in 1999, specializing in high-performance hardware RAID and disk-array technology. Its product portfolio includes PCIe SATA/SAS/NVMe RAID adapters, SAS HBAs, external RAID controllers and enclosures, Thunderbolt RAID storage systems, rackmount RAID subsystems, and storage connectivity products for DAS, NAS and SAN environments. Areca is particularly known for developing its own RAID firmware, drivers and controller technology rather than simply rebadging third-party RAID products, and historically developed proprietary ASIC and RAID-6 technology. Its hardware is aimed primarily at enterprise storage, servers, professional workstations, media-production environments and other applications requiring high-throughput, fault-tolerant storage. Current products include PCIe Gen 5 NVMe RAID adapters and Thunderbolt 5 RAID storage systems.

2 Most Seen Failures:

Drive Failure / Degraded RAID Array

One or more HDDs or SSDs develop read errors, drop offline, or fail completely, causing the Areca controller to report a degraded RAID set. Repeated media errors can trigger the controller's automatic disk-fail logic and initiate a rebuild after replacement.

Battery Backup Module Failure

The lithium-ion battery in Areca BBM/BBU modules loses capacity, fails to charge, or is reported as failed or missing as it ages. This can disable protected write-back caching and leave cached writes vulnerable during an unexpected power loss.

Cooling Fan Failure

Cooling fans can stop, slow below the controller's acceptable RPM threshold, or become intermittent with age. Areca hardware monitoring reports this as a fan-failed condition and inadequate airflow can subsequently cause controller or drive overheating.

Controller Overheating

RAID controller processors and associated components can exceed their permitted operating temperature because of failed fans, dust buildup, restricted airflow, or sustained heavy workloads. The controller generates an over-temperature event and may become unstable or throttle until cooling is restored.

RAID Member Drive Dropout

A drive can intermittently disappear from an Areca RAID set because of a failing disk, connection problem, backplane issue, power interruption, or communication errors. Missing members can produce incomplete-RAID, degraded-array, or interrupted rebuild/migration events.

Cache DRAM / ECC Failure

Controller cache memory can develop single-bit ECC errors or more serious fatal DRAM faults. Areca identifies both conditions in its hardware monitoring system, with persistent or fatal errors potentially requiring replacement of the DRAM module or controller hardware.

Firmware / Driver Compatibility Failure

Areca controllers can become inaccessible, fail to initialize correctly, or exhibit operating-system compatibility problems when controller firmware, BIOS, drivers, or host OS versions are mismatched. Firmware and driver updates are therefore a recurring troubleshooting requirement across older and newer ARC controller generations.

RAID Rebuild Failure / Interrupted Rebuild

A RAID rebuild or migration can stop when another member disk disappears, develops unreadable sectors, or otherwise becomes unavailable during reconstruction. The array may remain degraded or incomplete until the missing or failed disk condition is corrected.

Thunderbolt / Host Connection Failure

External Areca RAID systems can disappear from the host, fail to mount, or lose communication because of Thunderbolt, PCIe, cable, interface, driver, or host power-state problems. ARC-8050-series systems are particularly dependent on stable host-interface communication, and a disconnect can make an otherwise intact RAID volume appear unavailable.

Connect with a technician.

  1. 1 Repairs are performed on a best-effort basis. Acme Revival utilizes a network of sophisticated technicians and engineers with diverse service offerings; despite this, factors that influence the repair outcome may ultimately prove unsuccessful. Acme Revival makes no claim that it can, guarantee a repair before your device is sent in for diagnostic evaluation; even then, repair and diagnostic work are not mutually exclusive. Despite well-intentioned quoting, repairs may still prove unsuccessful.
