Abbingdon Music Research (AMR) is a British ultra-high-end audio manufacturer founded in 2001 and positioned as the reference-level sister brand to iFi audio. AMR develops audiophile home-audio electronics including integrated and power amplifiers, preamplifiers, DAC/digital processors, CD players/processors, phono stages, and loudspeakers. The company is particularly known for unconventional analogue-inspired circuit design, hybrid valve/solid-state amplification, sophisticated digital conversion, and extremely high-specification construction. Its historic 77 and 777 series established the brand among high-end audiophiles, while its current Luna Series—including the Luna Ingenii DAC platform, Luna Medii preamplifier, and Luna Procellarum power amplifier—represents its present flagship range. AMR emphasizes low-volume, reference-grade equipment built around fidelity, precision engineering, and premium British manufacture.
AMR CD-77 and CD-777 players may stop recognizing discs, intermittently display "No Disc" or "Disc Error," skip, or fail to read CDs altogether. Aging optical laser pickups are a documented failure point in these models.
DP-777 and DP-777 SE units can develop ineffective volume attenuation, remain at maximum output, or produce heavily distorted audio when the preamplifier section is used. Repair reports specifically identify failure of the electronic volume-control IC as a known problem.
CD-77 units can incorrectly report that the AC voltage is outside the operating range even when the incoming mains voltage is correct. Failures involving the OptiMains control circuitry, voltage regulators, or its microcontroller can prevent normal startup.
AM-777 amplifiers can develop a nonresponsive front-panel power button even though the amplifier can still operate through other controls. Faults in the low-voltage control circuitry, switching electronics, or associated components are typical suspects.
CD-77 and CD-777 transports may spin discs erratically, fail to establish stable tracking, or repeatedly attempt to read a disc. Problems can originate from the optical pickup, servo mechanism, drive components, or disc-puck positioning.
DP-777 DACs can intermittently disappear from a connected computer, lose USB communication, experience dropouts, or stop producing audio until the digital connection is reset. USB interface, driver, or digital-handshake instability is one of the recurring operational complaints.
DP-777-series DAC/preamp units can develop distorted, abnormally low, or uncontrolled output despite the digital conversion section continuing to function. Analog output, attenuation, power-supply, or volume-control circuitry can be responsible.
PH-77 phono stages can become stuck in mono or fail to return correctly to stereo after changing equalization or operating modes. A malfunctioning switching relay or its associated control circuitry is a likely hardware failure point.
AMR amplifiers, DACs, and CD players may fail to power up because of mains-fuse, low-voltage supply, regulator, or internal power-control faults. AMR's service documentation repeatedly lists loss of power as a principal troubleshooting category across its hardware.
