AML is a privately held U.S. manufacturer specializing in rugged barcode and automatic-identification hardware for warehouses, manufacturing facilities, retail operations, logistics, and inventory-management environments. Founded in 1983, it designs and manufactures products in the United States, with its core lineup including Android-based handheld mobile computers, wearable computers and scanners, vehicle-mounted computers, fixed/self-service kiosks, and supporting device-management and barcode data-collection software. Its products are primarily used for inventory control, shipping and receiving, asset tracking, stock lookup, traceability, and other mission-critical data-capture workflows. AML differentiates itself through domestic engineering and manufacturing, configurable purpose-built hardware, and U.S.-based service and technical support.
Lithium-ion batteries in AML handhelds such as the M7220, M7225, Triton, Striker, Scepter, and LDX10 lose capacity with age and charge cycles. Symptoms include short runtime, sudden shutdowns, failure to boot, or operation only while connected to power.
The integrated 1D laser, CCD, or 2D imager may stop illuminating, fail to decode barcodes, or scan only intermittently. Common causes include scan-engine failure, damaged internal connections, impact damage, and deterioration or contamination of the scanner window.
AML handhelds may fail to charge in their cradle or through their charging connection because of worn contacts, damaged connectors, failed charging circuitry, or cradle faults. The device may show no charging indication or require repositioning to establish a connection.
AML kiosk and touchscreen models can develop inaccurate, drifting, intermittent, or completely unresponsive touch input. Resistive touch panels such as those used in legacy KDT terminals can also require repeated calibration or fail after prolonged use or physical damage.
The display may become blank, dim, flicker, develop lines or damaged pixels, or fail after a drop. AML specifically treats LCD displays and their external components as common serviceable items across its mobile-computer and kiosk product families.
Physical keys, programmable buttons, and scan triggers can become intermittent, stick, or stop registering after extensive warehouse use. Mechanical switch wear, damaged keypad overlays, contamination, and impact damage are typical causes.
An AML terminal may remain completely dead, repeatedly restart, or fail to finish booting even with a known-good charged battery. Faults can involve the power-input circuitry, internal PCB, battery connections, or other board-level power components.
Wireless AML models can lose their network connection, exhibit weak or intermittent reception, or stop associating with access points. When configuration and firmware are ruled out, failures can involve the WLAN radio, antenna, antenna connection, or mainboard.
Drops and repetitive industrial use commonly damage AML cases, battery doors, scanner lenses, USB or serial connectors, charging interfaces, and other exposed components. Damage can cause loose connections, intermittent communication, charging problems, or loss of environmental protection.
