Adafruit repair, service, and parts

Acme Revival is an independent repair network that operates separately from the manufacturers whose devices we service. Our independence enables a repair model that exists beyond manufacturer-controlled strategies, while preserving the ability to work with manufacturers where appropriate.

Adafruit Industries is a U.S. electronics manufacturer and open-source hardware company founded in 2005 by engineer Limor “Ladyada” Fried. The company designs and manufactures development boards, microcontroller platforms, sensor and interface breakout boards, displays, LED and NeoPixel products, wearable-electronics hardware, robotics controllers, and other embedded-electronics tools aimed primarily at makers, engineers, educators, students, and prototype developers. Major Adafruit product families include Feather, QT Py, Trinket, Circuit Playground, Metro, FLORA, ItsyBitsy, PyPortal, and various STEMMA/STEMMA QT boards. The company is particularly known for combining hardware with extensive open-source software, CircuitPython support, libraries, tutorials, and educational documentation, while maintaining significant PCB assembly, soldering, testing, and production capability in New York City.

2 Most Seen Failures:

USB Port / Device Detection Failure

Feather, QT Py, ItsyBitsy, Circuit Playground, Metro, and similar boards may power up but fail to enumerate over USB or appear as a serial/BOOT device. Common hardware-side causes include damaged or stressed USB connectors, poor cables, connector solder-joint damage, or USB-interface faults.

Power / Brownout Failure

Microcontroller boards may reset repeatedly, fail to boot, or behave intermittently when the 3.3 V regulator or incoming USB/battery supply cannot maintain stable voltage. ESP32-based Feather models are particularly sensitive to inadequate supply current during wireless activity.

LiPo Charging Failure

Feather-family boards can stop charging an attached LiPo/Li-ion battery or operate only from USB because of battery-connector, charger-IC, polarity, or battery faults. Incorrectly polarized third-party batteries can damage the Feather's charging and power circuitry.

I2C Sensor Not Detected

STEMMA QT breakouts and sensor boards can disappear from an I2C scan or communicate intermittently because of connector, solder-joint, power, pull-up, or sensor-interface faults. A failed sensor IC or damaged SDA/SCL connection commonly presents as no detected I2C address.

TFT / OLED Blank Display

Adafruit TFT and OLED modules may illuminate yet show a blank, white, black, corrupted, or intermittent image. Typical causes include display-controller initialization problems, damaged flex/connectors, poor SPI/I2C connections, or loss of display power.

NeoPixel Dead / Flickering Pixels

NeoPixel strips, rings, matrices, and onboard pixels commonly show no output, flickering, incorrect colors, or all pixels after one point going dark. Frequent causes include poor ground connections, damaged first pixels/data inputs, voltage spikes, inadequate power, or broken strip interconnects.

Bootloader / Flash Storage Failure

CircuitPython-capable boards may stop presenting the CIRCUITPY or UF2 BOOT drive, become read-only, or fail to boot normally when onboard flash or its filesystem becomes corrupted. Severe corruption or damaged bootloader contents can make an otherwise powered board appear nonfunctional.

Intermittent Header / Solder Connection

FeatherWings, breakouts, sensors, and development boards can exhibit intermittent power, data, or peripheral operation because of cracked, cold, or mechanically stressed solder joints. Header pins, STEMMA connections, USB sockets, and high-use power connections are common points of failure.

Wi-Fi / Radio Connection Failure

ESP32 Feather and other wireless Adafruit boards may repeatedly disconnect, fail to scan, or reset while transmitting when power delivery is marginal or the radio subsystem is compromised. Persistent failure after verified firmware, credentials, and stable power can indicate damage to the ESP32 module, antenna path, or associated circuitry.

1 Acme Revival offers repair, service, and part rebuild opportunities for most Adafruit devices.

Connect with a technician.

  1. 1 Repairs are performed on a best-effort basis. Acme Revival utilizes a network of sophisticated technicians and engineers with diverse service offerings; despite this, factors that influence the repair outcome may ultimately prove unsuccessful. Acme Revival makes no claim that it can, guarantee a repair before your device is sent in for diagnostic evaluation; even then, repair and diagnostic work are not mutually exclusive. Despite well-intentioned quoting, repairs may still prove unsuccessful.
