Acer is a global technology OEM and PC brand focused primarily on personal computing and display products. Its core portfolio includes notebook PCs, desktop PCs, Chromebooks, gaming computers, monitors, projectors, tablets, and related electronics and accessories, with newer businesses extending into networking, e-mobility, appliances, and other connected devices. Acer is particularly well known for its Aspire mainstream computers, Swift thin-and-light laptops, TravelMate business systems, and Predator/Nitro gaming products. Rather than manufacturing most products itself, Acer relies heavily on ODM/OEM manufacturing partners and manages product design, branding, procurement, marketing, sales, and support. PCs remain central to the business: Acer specifically reports notebook and desktop PC performance, while businesses outside PCs and displays represented 32.2% of FY2025 revenue.
Display hinges become loose, stiff, or pull away from the chassis as their mounting points crack or separate. This can cause the lid or display bezel to split from the base and may eventually damage nearby display cabling.
The internal battery stops holding its expected charge, drains unusually quickly, or prevents the laptop from operating without AC power. Aging or failed batteries may also swell and distort the chassis or trackpad.
The charging socket becomes loose, damaged, or electrically intermittent, causing the laptop to charge only when the plug is positioned at a particular angle. In severe cases, the system stops detecting external power entirely.
The laptop operates at excessive temperatures because of clogged cooling paths, degraded thermal interface material, or a failing fan. Symptoms include unusually loud fans, thermal throttling, poor performance, and unexpected shutdowns under load.
The built-in display develops black screens, flickering, dead pixels, vertical lines, or loss of backlighting. Common hardware causes include failed LCD panels, damaged display cables, loose ribbon connections, and backlight circuitry faults.
Individual keys or groups of keys become intermittent, unresponsive, stuck, or begin producing repeated inputs. Failures can originate in the keyboard membrane, internal flex cable, physical wear, or liquid-related damage.
The laptop fails to power on, shuts down unexpectedly, freezes, or exhibits multiple unrelated hardware symptoms because of a mainboard-level fault. Power regulation, board components, connectors, or other motherboard circuitry may require component-level repair or board replacement.
The touchpad becomes intermittent, freezes, stops detecting input, or develops inconsistent cursor response. After software causes are excluded, defective touchpad hardware, cabling, or connections can require replacement.
The cooling fan develops grinding, humming, rattling, or unusually loud operating noise and may eventually stop moving sufficient air. A failed or deteriorating fan can cause elevated internal temperatures, thermal throttling, and shutdowns.
