Reliable,  well-made, ‘solid’ lensometer that does the job, UV measurement as standard. 

LCD screen has poor contrast at some angles, neutralization target could be bigger.

The Tomey TL-3000 closely resembles the Topcon CL-100; which is a good thing, and a testament to well-made devices from Japan.

Overview

The 3000A from Tomey is a device that we see a lot of- which can be unusual from a brand (Tomey) that certainly doesn’t lead the market in units sold. This is most likely due to a very robust and reliable lensometer unit that shared much of its inception with the Topcon CL-100- also from Japan and also another quality piece of machinery. If you look closely, you’ll notice this Tomey shares a nearly identical screen and software interface with that of the CL-100. This screen suffers from some contrast issues at certain angles, and you’ll feel some of the age while pushing the buttons below it. Tomey (and Topcon) decided that for the 3000A they would only offer a 320 x 240 display not even producing an actual image, instead ‘dots’ that would produce an ‘icon-only’ interface. This doesn’t sound at all pleasing but it somehow produces a user interface that is refreshingly simple and easy-to-read.
