Combination unit improves patient flow dramatically, Autorefraction samples a 4mm diameter, much improved CCD camera.
Software interface can appear complicated to untrained technicians, LCD screen and buttons feels a little janky.
With combined refractive, keratometric, and tonometry functions– and advanced capabilities– the TonoRef should be a the dream model for most optometry clinics.
If you’ve ever looked at a pretest room and wondered why we aren’t just able to combine two or three of those units into one, you’re not alone. Of all those pretest devices, the (non-contact) Tonometer and Autorefractor seem to be the most common and necessary. Thankfully, NIDEK’s TonoRef creation is the perfect space-saving, efficiency-boosting device to combine both applications into one single unit. More specifically, NIDEK has literally just stacked the tonometry function on top of the Refraction function, and then pasted some plastic housing over this and circuit boards that do the calculating. The result is fabulous. Not only is the TonoRef an efficiency booster for patient flow dream-reality, its also well equipped and competent in both applications. With a nearly 4.0mm diameter refractive measuring area and a SLD and a highly sensitive CCD camera, the TonoRef II embodies the best of NIDEK refraction; similar to the ARK-510/530. Likewise, the NT-510 technology is inherent (and literally on top of) the Autorefraction prisms.
