Automatic puff control decreases puff intensity, as accurate to Goldmann, very affordable.
Mid-2000 bodywork + frame overshadows a quality NCT system; forehead rest is uncomfortable and inadequate.
The NT-2000, though poorly designed, has competent (IOP) capabilities through a softer (than usual) puffs.
The NIDEK NT-2000 follows most manufacturing guidelines to build their NCT on the same platform/base as their autorefractor/keratometer; NIDEK is no exception, designing the NT-2000 to nearly match the 700A in terms of bodywork, styling, and function. It’s too bad- the NT-2000 does actually have impressive measurement (IOP) capabilities, as opposed to the 700A which struggles with consistent ARK abilities. Because it shares housing with 700A era design, it’s immediately at a disadvantage with our ranking system. Although the design is fashionably thin and rather sleek, it consequently lends a forehead rest that it is uncomfortable and inadequate to host a patient about to get puffed in-the-eye. Tell any patient what’s about to happen (PUFF!) and modes of flinching and blinking are bound to follow. The NT-2000 should have been given something besides a bar and a poorly fitting plastic chin rest to accommodate this. The design quality concerns also don’t stop there. The NT-2000 sits on top of a plastic track system within the base that seems to want to crack anytime excessive vibration is applied. Of course we don’t anticipate this thing falling off the table, however if it did you shouldn’t expect any miracles. We also notice robustness issues over time with the joystick which seems to confuse the elevation tracking system to send the optical head in both ways at once- frustrating to say the least. There are however good (maybe even great?) things about the NT-2000’s non-contact tonometry function which is again unfortunate that a quality NCT system has to share a house with poorly thought out design. The puff actually isn’t that intense, and its intuitive software controls air-flow to only apply necessary force based on prior puffs already achieved per-each eye examined. This is pretty neat. It’s also fairly easy to align– so long that the track and joystick is all working like it should. During our in-house testing the NT-2000 performed similarly in accuracy when compared to NCTs from 2008 to 2014.
