Exactly like your (slit lamp) Goldmann tonometer, yet portable and just as accurate. 

Small learning curve with proper alignment, other handheld tonometers are easier to use with marginal compromise of accuracy. 

The Perkins is a unique solution for when pin-point accuracy is a must, yet the patient is unable to cooperate with a formal Goldmann exam.

Overview

The Perkins handheld tonometer is just like your Goldmann that mounts onto a slit lamp, yet not so. It’s instead handheld and entirely portable with a mini forehead rest that makes it usable in just about any angle. The Perkins is however in a unique market position– in between a very practical ICare Tonometer and the time-tested Goldmann currently on your slit lamp. Landing somewhere in the middle of that, it seems to only make sense for a very thin slice of your patient population- ideally, those whom require precise IOP readings yet are unable to formally be in clinic for Goldmann. Unlike the ICare, it still requires anesthetic drops and bit of patience (from both operator and patient) to properly align and measure.
